Double-anonymous peer review

Since 1 April 2025 the journal uses double-anonymous review. The manuscript must not reveal who the authors are:

  • Upload the title page as a separate file not for review. It holds author details, conflict of interest, funding, acknowledgements and author contributions.
  • Cite your own earlier work without making clear that it is yours, and keep affiliations out of figures, tables and legends.
  • Anonymize file names, including the main manuscript PDF.

Title page and abstract

  • Title up to 85 characters; short title up to 46 characters including spaces; at least four keywords.
  • Abstract: one paragraph of up to 250 words stating objective, methods, results and conclusions, without abbreviations or references.
  • Optional plain language summary of up to 280 characters (roughly 40 to 70 words) below the abstract, used to promote the article on social media.
  • A graphical abstract is encouraged.

What each section should do

  • Introduction: briefly review relevant knowledge, then state the objectives concisely.
  • Results: a narrative leading the reader through the experiments.
  • Discussion: do not restate results; place them in a broader context and highlight importance and novelty.

Formatting

  • Double line spacing and continuous line numbering; show the word count on the title page.
  • References numbered in order of citation.
  • Submitting and corresponding authors need an institutional email address.

Review and fees

About 80% of submissions go to full external review after triage, with a decision on reviewed papers typically within a month. Online-only open access with an article publication charge on acceptance; members of the Society for Endocrinology and the European Society of Endocrinology get a discount. See the publication charges page.
